Worm Farms

 


Instructions:

1)       Rip newspaper into long strips.

2)       From 3-liter soda bottle:

a)       cut around top and remove the spout end.

b)       ice pick a few holes in bottom.

c)       can use bottom of a second bottle for a lid.

3)       Moisten newspaper strips with water.

4)       Add dirt to the paper & “mush it up” well.

5)       Add a little more water, though it shouldn’t be drippy.

6)       Fill up the bottle.

7)       Put the worms in.

 

Food:

Any non-meat kitchen waste can be used to feed the critters (lettuce, apple peels, crackers, etc.).

 

Under-sink kitchen bins can be used to make a bigger farm which can be stored under your kitchen sink.  Window screen material can be glued to the inside of the bins before filling to provide adequate ventilation for the worms.  The program presenting this idea said that there would not be any foul odors associated with the under-sink worm farm.
